Wheel Alignment Cost in Sydney: Prices and What’s Included

Compare published Sydney wheel alignment prices, understand what your quote includes and learn which questions to ask before booking or approving extra work.

Sydney car care / Tyres & wheels

A small adjustment.
A quote worth checking.

You’ve booked new tyres, clipped a kerb, or noticed the steering wheel sitting a bit crooked. Now someone’s offered you an alignment. The price looks fair enough, but what are you actually paying for?

What matters is the work included. A front alignment, a four wheel measurement and a wheel balance are different jobs, even when they show up on the same invoice.

01 / The price

How much does wheel alignment cost in Sydney?

As a starting point, mycar advertises Sydney wheel alignment from $99. Hot Tyres in Riverwood lists $60 to $85 for a front alignment and $90 to $140 for a four wheel alignment. Specialist work can cost more.

These are individual providers’ published examples, not a Sydney average or a Servistar quote. Use them to frame your questions, then get a price for your exact vehicle.

02 / Two different jobs

Is wheel balancing included?

Don’t assume it is. Alignment and balancing use different equipment and fix different problems. A package might include both, but the quote should spell that out.

Wheel alignment

Measures the angles of the wheels and adjusts the suspension where the vehicle allows it. The reference is the manufacturer’s specification for that model.

Wheel balancing

Checks the weight distribution of each tyre and wheel assembly. Small weights are fitted to compensate for imbalance, which can cause vibration at particular speeds.

Ask whether balancing is priced per wheel or for the complete set, and whether it’s already included with new tyres. You should be able to see what each charge covers.

If shaking is the reason you’re booking, describe when it happens before requesting a particular repair. Our guide to a car that shakes at high speed explains the wider checks that may be needed.

03 / Before you book

Five things to clarify on the quote

You don’t need to learn every suspension term. A workshop should be able to answer these questions in ordinary language before you approve the job.

  1. Is this a check or an adjustment?A measurement shows whether the angles sit within specification. Ask what you pay if no adjustment is needed, and whether the advertised price includes adjustments when they are needed.
  2. Which wheels will be measured?Ask how the rear wheel direction is accounted for. Four wheel measurement doesn’t mean every angle on every wheel can be adjusted. That depends on the suspension design.
  3. What is inspected first?Ask whether the price includes checking tyre pressures, tyre condition and relevant steering or suspension wear before adjustment. Get any repair recommendation explained separately.
  4. What confirms the result?Request the readings from before and after the work. Ask whether the workshop checks the steering wheel position and carries out a road check where appropriate.
  5. What could change the total?Confirm GST, any diagnosis fee, balancing and additional labour. Ask the workshop to contact you before carrying out work beyond the agreed scope.

04 / When the price changes

When extra work may be reasonable

A lifted ute, lowered car or more complex suspension setup can take longer to align. Worn or damaged components may also need attention first. An alignment changes settings; it can’t repair a worn joint or straighten a damaged part.

If extra work is proposed, ask what was found, how it affects the alignment and whether the original fee still applies. A photograph, measurement or explanation of the movement in a component is more useful than being told the car simply “needs more work”.

Some vehicles also require an electronic reset or calibration after alignment. Ask the workshop to check the manufacturer’s procedure for your exact model, including any steering angle sensor or driver assistance requirements. Owning an EV, or having lane assistance, is not by itself an explanation for a separate calibration charge.

If you already hear knocking over bumps, mention it when booking. Our guide to suspension clunks can help you describe the problem.

05 / At collection

How to read your wheel alignment report

Start with the vehicle details and the selected specification. Then ask the technician to walk you through what changed. You don’t need to interpret every decimal to have a useful conversation.

Your report / Three useful reference points
Before

Which readings were outside the selected specification?

Specification

Is the reference correct for your model and suspension setup?

After

What was adjusted, and does anything still need attention?

ToeThe direction the wheels point towards or away from each other when viewed from above.

CamberThe inward or outward lean of a wheel when viewed from the front.

CasterThe tilt of the steering axis when viewed from the side.

Thrust angleThe direction the rear wheels point relative to the vehicle’s centre line.

Don’t expect every reading to be zero. The correct settings are specific to the vehicle. If something remains outside the selected range, ask whether it is adjustable and what the workshop recommends next.

Keep the report with your invoice. If the original concern remains, tell the workshop promptly and refer to the job already completed before authorising another alignment elsewhere.

06 / After a kerb or pothole

Book an inspection with the right information

A hard impact can affect alignment and may damage steering components. Describe what happened, which wheel took the impact and any change you noticed afterwards. That gives the workshop a better starting point than asking for the cheapest alignment.

  • Say whether the steering wheel position changed immediately or the problem appeared gradually.
  • Mention a new vibration, noise, pressure loss or visible tyre damage.
  • Tell the workshop about recent tyre fitting or suspension work, and bring any previous report.

If the steering feels unsafe or a tyre is visibly damaged or losing pressure rapidly, stop somewhere safe and arrange assistance. An alignment appointment is not a reason to keep driving a damaged vehicle.

A few practical answers

Common questions before booking

Do new tyres need an alignment?

New tyres are a sensible time for an alignment check. Whether an adjustment is needed depends on the measurements. Ask for alignment and balancing to be identified separately on the tyre quote.

How long should I allow?

A simple front alignment can take around 30 minutes. A full four wheel alignment on a more complex vehicle may take an hour or longer. Confirm the collection time, especially if inspection or repairs are also booked.

How often should it be checked?

There’s no single interval that suits every car and driving situation. Follow your vehicle’s guidance and arrange a check after a significant impact, uneven tyre wear or a change in steering behaviour.

Is a cheap alignment worth it?

It can be, if the quoted service suits your car and the workshop explains the result. Compare the scope, approval process and report before deciding. An expensive package isn’t automatically necessary either.
